CHANDIGARH: Police failure to solve the case of alleged kidnapping of their daughter even after almost a year of the incident has left Santosh Devi and Kailash Poddar, who stay in Bapu Dham colony of Sector 26, at their wits end. They have no idea who to turn to for help.
There has been no trace of Aba Kumari, 15, after she went missing on April 26, 2010.
Police have booked her neighbour Rohit Kumar as an accused in the case on the complaint of her mother, but done little to look for clues.
Santosh, 36, still remembers the day it all began ' with a brawl between the two families. She had made a police complaint against Rohit for loitering around her house. 'Being a mother of three daughters, I was apprehensive about his intentions and complained to cops,' she told TOI.
Aba disappeared within days after that, and the boy went missing too. 'He was a hooligan. He and his family are responsible for the kidnapping (of Aba). His stepmother and paternal uncle have helped him in this crime. I don't even know if my daughter is alive or not,' she added. Santosh claims to have been beaten up by Rohit's stepmother several times. Police know that Rohit's family is at fault, yet they have not taken any action against them, she said before accusing them of taking money from them. 'They wanted money from us too,' she added.
'I'll commit suicide if my daughter is not traced,' she said. 'I'll do the same within 10 days of her death,' added Kailash.
